Monday Nights Life Class

As I've not published for a while. I thought I'd post these 2 paintings from Mondays night's class at Vernon Mill. 7.00 - 9.00 (including very nice biscuits) Firstly Rachael, who is a great model with amazing dreadlocks and secondly Stewart... as tall as a giraffe... so quite hard to see!

Cause you were all yellow

Oil on board 10 x 12" framed. I'm really starting to enjoy these still life's, although at the moment for every three I produce i might get one half decent attempt. I tried to keep this one more painterly and simple. This one is called "yellow" after the famous Coldplay track. Exhibition News I will... Continue Reading →

Still Life Study; Jug

Oil on board. 7" x  7" Following on from my last post, I have continued with my interest of painting still life's. I have always admired some of the beautiful classical porcelain from rome and greece. Their shapes (although out of fashion at the moment) are a joy to paint and after scouring a few... There is ‘still life’ in my studio

I thought I'd have a break from painting people and set up a still life in my studio. With a little help from a few charity shop purchases I thought it would be great to set up a breakfast scene in front of my studio. Sometimes it's great to see a painting with a narrative... Continue Reading →

Barbara – Monday nights life class

Another instalment from Monday's life class (Vernon Mill Artist Studio's) This was the final 2 week pose from Barbara. Again, using the linseed oil as a barrier to create some transparent effects. I decided to try incorporate some more of the figure. Not sure about some of the proportions but I enjoyed doing this study. I... Continue Reading →

“Ricky don’t lose that number”

This was my attempt at painting Rick - 2nd session from monday nights life class. I really enjoyed this study. I tried a new technique of oiling the canvas with linseed oil after the first session. It creates a barrier between the first session and subsequent layers. The advantage is you can create transparent almost... Continue Reading →

Painting Anastasia in my studio

Oil on canvas 24" x 36" inches I painted this nude a few weeks ago but was reluctant to post her as i felt it was a bit wooden in areas. Subsequent 'likes' from fellow artists have made me change my opinion although, i think i will revisit this and improve certain areas. It was... Continue Reading →

I’ll call her Mary

I'll call this latest work Mary... for obvious reasons! I was very reluctant to post this picture, although I spent a lot of time painting this. (not from life) I was very pleased with it initially but when i took some pictures of it I felt it didn't do it justice. This is my mobile... Continue Reading →

Self Portrait March 2017

Self Portrait - March 2017 I submitted this self portrait for the Sky Arts competition. Alas it was rejected... but apart from this I enjoyed painting it! I learn't a great deal from the process! It lacks emotion and is sterile in it's delivery but sometimes you learn from trying to impress. i.e. you try too hard!
