PORTRAIT PAINTING IN OILS

Week 1: Using our photo for reference I will cover the whole process from the initial drawing of the face (freehand or a grid) identifying the shadow and midtone areas. We will begin blocking-in the different planes with three different tones. Paint in the background colour.
Week 2: Learn about and create a colour palette. We will continue blocking-in, and exploring the form and investigate a number of different techniques including scumbling and glazing.
Week 3: Putting in the detail and balancing the portrait.

I demonstrate at each stage of the process and explain what we will be doing, in-depth. I work closely with each person (maximum of 6) to make the experience really enjoyable and help build confidence.

NB. We prefer to work from reference photographs chosen by myself, to ensure the quality, lighting and composition are ideal for creating a successful portrait.

Payment:
I would require a £30 deposit to secure a place on the course (max 6 people) and the balance on day 1 of the course.
