A balmy summers evening

I thought I'd take a break from painting my cityscape scences of Manchester and try something different. I was looking through my archives of photos and found a lovely photo of my bedroom bathed in warm late summer sunshine. The lady is a figment of my imagination, as the image needed a focal point I've... Continue Reading →

Anna

This is my latest painting using a very useful online resource for drawing/painting a life model. They have loads of different poses, mostly with 360 degree views. It's great if you can't afford a real life model. However the colours as is always the case when using a photograph a bit narrow in there gamut. Tried... Continue Reading →

Cafe Nero Painting

One of my favourite haunts in Macclesfield. This was my view of Cafe Nero from across the square. A real mixture of strong midday light and shadow.I'd really like to paint the view from inside the cafe looking out over the square. Homage to Gordon Radford and his views of cafe's abroad. Oil on linen... Continue Reading →

5 week life study

Monday Nights Life Class

As I've not published for a while. I thought I'd post these 2 paintings from Mondays night's class at Vernon Mill. 7.00 - 9.00 (including very nice biscuits) Firstly Rachael, who is a great model with amazing dreadlocks and secondly Stewart... as tall as a giraffe... so quite hard to see!

Self Portrait March 2017

Self Portrait - March 2017 I submitted this self portrait for the Sky Arts competition. Alas it was rejected... but apart from this I enjoyed painting it! I learn't a great deal from the process! It lacks emotion and is sterile in it's delivery but sometimes you learn from trying to impress. i.e. you try too hard!

MYSTERIOUS LADY IN BLUE DRESS

This was my attempt to produce some more commercially biased work. One person commented on the fact that it was like a Jack Vettriano. (not sure about that) If it brings me some of his fortune, I wouldn't say no. Painting created after this little charcoal study. Finally, Many thanks to all those who attended... Continue Reading →

My attempt at knife painting

My most recent work is a move away from my normal style.  I decided to try something different and attempt some knife painting. I wanted to create an image that hopefully was more expressive and emotive. I think the painting speaks for itself. It looks like I'm entering my 'dark period' but next week I hope to move... Nude in front of studio window

Ive not blogged for a few weeks, so thought this might be a good opportunity to showcase my latest nude painting of Beatrice. My last couple of paintings have not been so inspiring for me which is why I haven't displayed them  but this I enjoyed. My next project will be painting with a knife. I... Continue Reading →
