Sometimes spending hours on a painting can create an overworked and sterile image. As I say to my students “adding detail will not make your painting better or more convincing” The most important things to achieve are to create accurate values, colour and edge handling. As you can see there is little detail in this painting but it still conveys atmosphere and character.
