Knife and Prush Painting

I thought I’d try something a little different with my latest portrait painting. It is a mixture of knife work (mainly the background  and dress) and large paint brush work.

I was quite determined not to fall into my usual bad habit of blending my brush work and decided to apply more paint and try to create a looser and more painterly effect. I really enjoyed using the knife to paint, it gave me some surprising results and felt like I was really getting involved with the painting.

I’ve entitled this as the “Queen of Sheba”
